When the Heart Remembers and Responds

Dear Unity Family and Friends,

Today, many hearts across Kerrville and Kerr County are beating a little faster.

For some, the day began in the early hours with relentless rain, thunder, and lightning.

As daylight arrived, so did reports of rising water, road closures, barricades, and renewed flooding along the Guadalupe River.

For a community still carrying the memories of July 2025, days like this can awaken fear, grief, uncertainty, and memories held quietly within the body and heart.

In Unity, we do not deny what we are feeling. We meet it with awareness, compassion, prayer, and loving action.

The heart is more than a symbol of affection. It is the center from which we listen, discern, and respond. A frightened heart may need reassurance. A grieving heart may need to be heard. A weary heart may need practical help. And a compassionate heart asks, "How may I safely be present for someone today?"

Today reminds us that self-love can begin in practical ways: honoring what we feel, tending to our nervous systems, asking for help when needed, and refusing to face difficult moments alone.

Please avoid flooded roads, respect every barricade, and do not place yourself or others at risk. Sometimes the most loving action is the safe choice.

In uncertain moments, may we remember that we do not have to steady the whole world at once. We begin by steadying the heart before us—perhaps our own-and then listening for the next loving, wise, and safe step.

May every person in our community feel protected, supported, and held in the heart of love.
