In a busy world filled with noise, responsibilities, and constant distractions, it can be deeply nourishing to pause, breathe, and reconnect with the quiet wisdom within.
The Hill Country Meditation Circle offers a welcoming space for anyone interested in meditation, mindfulness, and the teachings of the Buddha. Meeting in the Meditation Chapel at Unity of the Hill Country, this Theravāda Buddhist sangha gathers to study, reflect, practice, and support one another along the Noble Eightfold Path.
The word sangha means spiritual community. It reminds us that although our inner journey is personal, we do not have to walk it alone. Through thoughtful conversation and shared practice, participants explore how timeless Buddhist teachings can help us meet everyday life with greater awareness, compassion, and peace.
What to Expect
Each gathering includes a discussion of a core Buddhist teaching drawn from the Pāli Canon and the Noble Eightfold Path. Participants are invited to reflect on the Dhamma—the teachings of the Buddha—and consider how these principles can be applied in their relationships, choices, challenges, and daily lives.
The gathering also includes guided and silent meditation, along with time for sangha conversation and shared insights. There is no pressure to speak, and no previous knowledge or meditation experience is required. You are welcome to participate in whatever way feels comfortable to you.
Topics may include mindfulness, compassion, ethical living, wisdom, concentration, understanding suffering, and cultivating greater freedom from the habits of mind that disturb our peace.
One recent gathering focused on Right Concentration, or Sammā Samādhi. This aspect of the Eightfold Path teaches us to develop a focused and stable mind through meditation. As the mind becomes quieter and less distracted, we create space for deeper insight, understanding, and inner liberation.
A Practice for Everyday Life
Meditation is not simply about finding calm while sitting in silence. It can help us become more present in every part of our lives. With practice, we may learn to pause before reacting, meet difficulty with greater steadiness, and relate to ourselves and others with more patience and compassion.
The Hill Country Meditation Circle is a place to explore these teachings sincerely and practically. Whether you are new to Buddhism, have an established meditation practice, or are simply curious about a more mindful way of living, you are warmly invited.
As the Buddha taught, “When mindfulness is established, wisdom has the opportunity to arise.”
Come as you are. Bring your questions, your curiosity, and your willingness to be still.
